two are better

Who is cheering you on in your race?  Are you looking for ways where you can cheer others on in this journey of life?

Each race in our lives is an opportunity to grow. The training required when we set goals in all aspects of our live requires effort, discipline and stamina.  We all need someone cheering for us along the way, as we set out to achieve our goals.

I ran a half marathon yesterday. My goal was to finish under 2 hours and 30 minutes and have fun. So, some of you may be wondering how can you have fun running 13.1 miles? Shift the focus.   With the help of great pacers and friends along the way, I finished in 2:26..

When the focus is on the pain in my body, then I may want to give up.

When the focus is on the scenery and people around me, I get inspired to keep moving forward.

At mile 6 there were ice cold sponges to cool off, gifted by Stuart Alliance Church.

At mile 8.8, where I had severe cramping, I was welcomed with smiles and cheers from my friends with Elev8hope.

Along the way, I cheered others on and checked in on their race. Some were hurting and struggling to finish. Others were so focused on their race; they did not hear my voice. Many were doing the same, looking for someone they could encourage in their race.

I was so grateful for the pacers who ran the full 13.1 mile while holding a sign, which indicated my goal finish time. As I pressed in to the wind and climbed the final bridge, leading to the final stretch, I thanked my pacers for their assistance.

Here are some of my lessons from yesterday’s race:

When the focus is on the journey and experience, the finish line is way more fun and rewarding.

Allowing people to share in your race is a gift.

Helping those who are hurting along the way will always give you energy and strength for the steps ahead.

Do you seek to be the one who is cheering or are you waiting for someone to give you a cheer?

I choose to be cheerleader this side of eternity. As followers of Christ, we are called to encourage and edify others.  They will know we are Christians by our love: Love spoken and Love in Action!

CHALLENGE:

Find three people today you can encourage and Cheer for.

Write a note and place it in the mail.

Send a message on Facebook.

Call them and tell them why you are glad they are in your life.

Do this every day for 21 days.

See what happens to your life! Be prepared to be blessed!
